The Bouncing Souls - April 24, 2005 - Philadelphia, PA
More then 500 kids packed the basement of the First Unitarian Church on April 24th, 2005 to experience a rare small-venue performance by The Bouncing Souls. The evening started off with high-energy performances by The Ratchet and Let It Burn. After a slight technical delay, The Loved Ones hit the stage with an emotionally charged rendition of "Drastic" then blazed through a powerful set of tunes. The Explosion came next and did not disappoint - from the first note of "No Revolution" to the last bit of feedback of "Tarantulas", including their version of "Seeing Red" - they made sure everyone had the time of their lives. At 9:45 pm The Bouncing Souls climbed on stage and showed the kids why they are considered the old guard of punk, playing songs from every era of their 18 year long career. Highlights included a guest performance by David Wagenschutz on drums during "Headlights Ditch" and a crowd-pleasing rendition of "True Believers" featuring Dave Hause and Sound Man Bob on second and third guitar. After all was said and done, SSE was able to raise a little over $7,000. Thanks to The Bouncing Souls, The Explosion, The Loved Ones, Let It Burn, The Ratchets, David Wagenschutz, Nicholas, Margie, Andy Pants, Sean Agnew and R5. A very special thanks to K8 Hiltz for her impeccable sense of style and her dedication to organizations like SSE - without her none of this would have been possible. Thrice - September 26, 2004 - Anaheim, CA
As the sun burned off the early morning haze, more then 400 SSE team members breached the starting line to begin the 2004 Orange County Race For The Cure. Winding our way through the palm-lined streets of Newport Beach, our largest team to date made quite an impression. Less then an hour and a quarter later we were crossing the finish line to huge cheers from race organizers and the gathered crowd. After a quick trip to the SSE booth for a sip of water and to sign the banner, the team scattered to rest up for the second part of this epic day. Seven hours later we found ourselves in Anaheim's Chain Reaction nightclub for a special performance by Thrice. After raffling off a ton of amazing goodies, Dustin, Riley, Eddie and Teppei took the stage by force. Blazing through 22 songs, including some they have never played before and one or two they will never play again, the audience felt they were experiencing something special. Darkest Hour / Majority Rule - July 2, 2004 - Washington D.C.
With more then 725 people in attendance, the third SSE charity concert was full of excitement, fund raising and surprises. The evening kicked off with an emotional set from The Routineers. Having just lost her mother days earlier to Emphysema, Amanda MacKaye (lead singer) found the fortitude and strength to climb onto the stage at the Black Cat and give the audience a performance they will not soon forget. Majority Rule hit the stage next; bring the show to a whole new level of energy. Playing their last show as Majority Rule, this foursome left the audience broken and begging for more. After a quick change over, Darkest Hour exploded onto the stage and gave a new meaning to the word Œintense¹. Flying through a mix of old favorites and new classics, DH gave it¹s all and made sure that everyone in the room knew why they were there. The surprise of the evening came in the form of a somewhat-reunited Damnation a.d. Mike Mcternan and Ken Olden took the stage together for the first time in five years and treated the audience to their brand of heavy. Backed by members of Darkest Hour and Majority Rule, the two hardcore veterans seemed to be at the peak of their games. After everything was said and done the audience left feeling fulfilled and SSE raised over $5000. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a memorable night. A special thanks goes out to Mike Schleibaum, Matt Michel, Amanda MacKaye, Minu & Kimi Aghevli, Ben Green and Brian McTernan. To see more images from the show please click here. |

On December 17th, 2003 the House of Blues on Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA was the scene of the second Syrentha Savio Endowment charity concert. The 1100 people in attendance enjoyed remarkable performances. The show opened with a stunning set by Moments in Grace. Recently signed to Salad Days Records, this Florida quartet made believers out of all who watched. Minus The Bear hit the stage next. For those in the audience who had never experienced the magic of Minus the Bear, this was truly a thrilling evening. Thrice finished off the night and played a 20 song set list that included many old favorites and rarities. It was quite a performance. With so much great music it was easy to forget why we were all there. In the end, SSE walked away with nearly $12,000 in donations. To see more images from the show please click here. |
Kid Dynamite - April 11, 12, 13, 2003 - Philadelphia, PA
On April 11th, 2003 the seminal punk outfit Kid Dynamite played the first of three reunion shows in Philadelphia to benefit the Syrentha Savio Endowment. Kid Dynamite was joined by Strike Anywhere (Richmond, VA), The Curse (Philadelphia, PA), Grey Area (Brooklyn, NY) and Trial By Fire (Washington, D.C.); a line-up that brought the house down. While the 1800+ people in attendance were treated to an event that will not be easily forgotten, this was not just a concert, but also an opportunity to educate and inform people about the importance of breast cancer early detection and mammograms. After all was said and done, the audience learned a bit, sweated a lot, and enjoyed one of the best live performances I have seen in many years. And, most importantly, SSE raised over $20,000 for cancer treatment. To see more images from the weekend please click here. |
