News & Happenings
Since the Vans’ Warped Tour wrapped up back in early August, we’ve been busy working one-off events and festivals nearly every weekend with a great team of folks!
We first headed to Philadelphia, for the eighth annual installment of the This Is Hardcore festival. The organizers have been kind enough to include us for the past five years – or is it six? – and we couldn’t be more thankful. The lineup for the weekend featured a number of SFAC supporters including Boy Sets Fire, Bane, Paint It Black, Defeater, and Ceremony. It was great to see Modern Life Is War reunited on stage and yet equally as sad to see Kid Dynamite play one last time before officially hanging it up. Kid Dynamite headlined the first ever SSE/SFAC benefit concert weekend back in 2003 and as such, they will always hold very special place in our hearts.
Following TIHC, we headed to Toronto and Los Angeles for the Riot Fest and FYF fests respectively. Our friend and SSE board member K8 Hiltz manned our FYF booth and a handful of mannequin parts while founder Mark Beemer headed to the Great White North.
We then travelled south to Dragon*Con in Atlanta, Georgia. Many fantastic costumes were seen – Disney princesses, Run DMC storm troopers, Rowdy Roddy Piper, a group cosplaying steampunk Tetris, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, more Khaleesi’s than you could count – and a ton of our fandom-inspired tees were sold.
This past weekend the wonderful Bobby Soup slung cotton for us at the premiere Riot Fest event in Chicago’s Humboldt Park. Unfortunately, he was too busy working to catch a glimpse of the John Stamos butter sculpture (not even kidding on this one!). This Friday, our COO Katie Brown and longtime friend of the organization – and 2007 Vans’ Warped Tour merchie – Aileen Burns are headed to May Farms in Byers, CO for the third and final Riot Fest weekend of 2013. The show promises a great lineup including SFAC supporters Blink 182, Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio, Against Me!, Breathe Carolina, Minus The Bear, Chuck Ragan (of Hot Water Music), and Touche Amore among others. Cross your fingers for us that the historic flooding currently happening in the area does not affect the show!
We’ve also debuted a slew of new shirts in the past six weeks – including ones from Avail, Ceremony, Boy Sets Fire, Title Fight, Capture The Crown, and Major League, as well as a The Walking Dead inspired I <Zombie> ATL tee specifically for Dragon*Con. Our these designs as well as our older ones are available for purchase in the webstore.
We have also collaborated again with our friends over at Hoodie Buddie on two new sweatshirts. Our limited run of black Mayday Parade ‘Panther’ zip-ups sold out in a flash at Riot Fest Toronto. We’ll also have a special Hot Water Music zip-up available this upcoming weekend in Denver. Don’t sleep on these. They will sell quickly!
If you happen to catch Minus The Bear on their current North American tour, be sure to grab the t-shirt design that we’ve got out on the road with them!
So… that’s everything there is to report for now. Stay tuned for more collab t-shirts on the horizon as well as news regarding our upcoming events – New York Comic Con, The Fest in Gainesville, FL and the European Warped Tour shows!
